SCRATCHY ROB WINS 2007 NORTHAMPTON

Last night, Rob Suman bested 31 competitors to win the 2007 Northampton Croquet Club Tournament. His championship drive using a custom mallet on the frozen tundra left him holding the cock and leaving his mallet behind.

The new rules concerning custom mallets effective this year were the offspring of Tim Remmers who opened the door in the 2006 tournament bringing his own mallet for tournament play. With the door open to "custom mallets" a number of tools appeared in play for 2007. Most notably the effort by Dean Curtis utilizing Formula Vee parts from Kansas which, like the engines, look great but are not always the difference in winning.  The rules stipulate the winning mallet becomes the property of the Northampton Croquet Club which will be then become available for use for all players the following year.

The super final round was a who's who of Northampton Croquet Club personalities. Leading the pack in his 2nd tournament appearance was Uncle Scratchy Tony followed through the wickets by Fred Gilmartin- Geoff Roche - Brad Fleming and Jimmy "don't call me scratchy" Cain. In the end Scratchy Suman broke away from the pack to take the tournament cock away from the other lusting finalists.

Robbie Scratchy Rat's win with his "custom mallet" is the beginning of a new era for the Northampton Tournament. The record number of entries {31} with past tournament experience combined with new mallet technology makes winning an accomplishment. Congratulations to Scratchy and a "better luck next year" to the 30 losers.
