The 11th annual meeting of the Northampton Croquet Club was another success played under ideal conditions ... flurries and just cold enough. 36 players took the field competing for the beloved cock. Scratchy Suman got the job done winning his second title. Rob was also awarded the Archie Peck award from last years winner Bill Roche. 2011 champion Pat Carroll reluctantly had to give up the cock to Scratchy Suman dressed as a folk singer.
The Cocket was won by Donna Remers giving her a second championship.
The final game this year was packed with past champions McIntosh and Womer. Long time competitor Fred Gillmartin and rising stars JJ and Rich Silva rounded out the field. Scratchy Suman blasted past from the middle of the pack to win in front of the packed gallery of supporters. Truly a popular victory.
Other notable performances were put in by Jon Roylance and Rich Silva. Jon "ran the table" in the first round in a astonishing pace and the relinquished his opportunity to compete in the final for his commitment to the fine arts. Rich twice saved the neighborhood from burning down with his artful snowball tossing to snuff out the fires in the forest next door.
Other good news is the yearly membership dues will remain the same. No one went hungry or thirsty and the college kids took all the money gambling L R C.
